Hello all, it is day three of my cycle and I am writing to you LIVE.

I think it is quite natural that these Moon Letters take a turn, to a uh, more ubiquitous and conventional subject, that is also, highly controversial.

Me and my Moon

But I want to help you love your cycle because it has transformed how I live and respond to the natural rhythms our bodies reveal to us.

I find it daunting to write about ‘menstruation’ because I don’t like the words that describe the experience itself. It is not an accurate portrayal of what I feel it is. My body regenerates and I call it a six-letter word. The irony is that I am somehow men-struating. There is not a word that deserves the word man to be in it any less. My other alternatives are cycle, and to be honest, calling it my ‘Moon’ is endearing but it also somehow characterizes it to be something it is not… sweet, soft, pliable.

Tove Jansson who wrote and created Moomins is an icon. This is what I think we collectively need as women when that time of the month arrives.

I believe instead that we are goddesses who give back to the earth each time we bleed. Of course, we are highly disconnected from this idea, and culturally we are made to feel even further from our cycles themselves. We become radicalized as mothers when we finally realize the reason behind this annoying and often inconvenient ritual of life and death each month. In the all-encompassing awareness of the miracle of life, aren't we reminded of the miracle in ourselves?

I have not given birth, but I have been learning a thing or two about my cycle recently. This did not stem from a curiosity or a desire, but a frequent annoyance and frustration, a wave of anger, and sadness. I started taking medication for PMDD and my inflammatory digestive mystery because it was infecting my life enough that I was having a hard time. The medication has helped me so much, and a big part of this was due to a DMT trip where an ancient tiki figure told me that taking Big Pharma medication may help me reach my ancientness, but that is another story.

Since starting to take medication, I knew that this was a decision for a chapter of time to allow me to meet certain needs. What could Sertraline™ offer me in exchange for me ingesting its mortal flesh?

Before sharing what I’ve learned through deep research, I want to first invoke a truth: the more we attune to our cycles, the more we uncover a rhythm that truly supports us. We’ve been shaped by a patriarchal structure—one that prioritizes a 24-hour clock and a weekend-based schedule, both of which align more naturally with male hormonal patterns.

What I’m proposing is a radical shift—one that doesn’t just accommodate our cycles but reorients the way we live, allowing us to move in harmony with our own biology and, ultimately, to thrive.

Below I share the invaluable routine and structure that has changed my life.

List below.

Let’s start with a required inventory to support you through the first day of your cycle:

These ingredients aid in comfort, digestion, facilitation of cleansing, a balm for the soul, and an introspective device, a nourishing meal. You can personalize your list by adding anything that makes you feel comforted and joyful.

As your Moon approaches, progesterone steadily declines in the late luteal phase, making this the perfect time to rest. Last week, I found myself sleeping in until 12:30 p.m. This is completely unlike me, but I felt a deep pleasure in surrendering to rest as an offering to myself.

Now, on Day 3, my hormone levels are balancing out, and I feel my energy returning. I can’t help but think it’s because I fully embraced my rest phase—allowing my body the time it needed to recalibrate.

When we start paying attention to our bodies’ intelligence—the way they communicate with us—we develop a deeper respect for their ability to guide and support us. Which brings me to the first key shift in how we respond to these invitations:
